What does the check engine light usually mean?
It’s usually ignored by drivers until it is too late.
If your check engine light is illuminated, bring it to Bill’s Standard Auto Repair to determine what is causing the light to come on. Even though the light may vary from vehicle to vehicle, all have the same basic meaning: There’s a problem with the car’s emissions system. The on-board diagnostics system and engine control unit are in charge of monitoring a bunch of different parameters, and if they get a reading that’s off, then on comes the light.
The list of things that can trigger the check engine light is pretty lengthy. For example, anything from a loose gas cap to a faulty fuel injector can be to blame.
Do Not Delay!
Potential issues include:
- A faulty sensor or evaporative system leak
- Faulty oxygen sensors
- Worn-out spark plugs or direct ignition coils
- Loose or cracked hoses and manifolds
- Sticky exhaust gas re-circulation valves
- Fuel injector issues
- Tune-up needed
Ignoring the check engine light can lead to costly repairs and reduced gas mileage.

Been coming here for about a year and a half and I feel like I can always rely on them for quality service. Had a strut assembly break on my '99 Odyssey. They were able to get me in right away, diagnose the issue (bad driver's side front strut assembly). We discussed replacing both driver and passenger side, and what else needed to be done (tie rod, sway bar). Getting it on the lift showed more work (oil change). While the car was in, Power Steering Belt broke - so they replaced that as well as serpentine belt at minimal cost. Great communication, had the car done same day that I brought it in.

All the reviews are good. But I had my dodge durango towed there to get the water pump an the belt changed. An I supplied the parts. notice now 3 months later that the serpentine belt was not changed its in the back of my truck brand new. I'm still giving Thema good review because I expect them to make it right.

I developed a slow leak in one of the tires on my car over the weekend. Although I knew Monday morning was going to be very busy at Bill’s, I still arrived at 9:30 and was promptly greeted. iMy car was seen immediately. Bill’s Standard Auto Repair really saved me last night! I had a tire that was going flat very quickly. Trying to get through Petoskey was very hectic and traffic was bumper to bumper moving very slowly. I called and told them I was trying to get to them for help. It was already 5:00 pm and it took me 1/2 an hour to drive that one mile. Even though they close at 5:30 they waited for me to get there. As it turned out, I had a large screw that had punctured my tire. I wish I knew the guys name who helped me, but I don’t. He had my tire repaired in 5 minutes and I was able to get home safely.THANK YOU!!!!
